As a coach on TrainHeroic, the data you can export yourself is thin: a list of your clients’ names and email addresses. The years of training history you built with them exist, but the platform only lets each client download their own. That gap is worth understanding before you ever need it, and Garmin’s July 2026 acquisition of TrainHeroic just gave a lot of coaches a reason to look.
This guide is for fitness coaches and personal trainers who want to get their data out of TrainHeroic. We build free tools that do exactly that, and we have already shipped them for Kahunas and Trainerize. We have not built a TrainHeroic exporter yet, but we will if coaches ask for one, so this guide covers both: how to reach us about that, and what you can save on your own today.
A TrainHeroic data export, in plain terms, means saving the coaching records from your account so you can back them up or move them later.
Here it is at a glance:
| Question | Short answer |
|---|---|
| Want a TrainHeroic exporter built? | Email yash@assistantcoach.fit and tell us which records matter; real demand sets our build order |
| What you can export as a coach | A client list (name, email, start date) and printed or copied analytics, not a full workspace |
| What you cannot export directly | Your clients’ training history in one click, and libraries cannot move between separate organizations |
| How to get the full history | Ask each client to run their own data export in TrainHeroic and send you the file |
| What Garmin’s acquisition changed | Ownership only. No shutdown, migration, or price change was announced |
| If you are leaving | Save your coach-owned programs, and weigh alternatives on export, pricing, and stack |

We Can Build a TrainHeroic Data Exporter for You
We build coaching software, and we believe one thing strongly: a coach should be able to walk away from any platform with their own work. So we make free local tools that pull a coach’s data off a platform onto their own laptop, no support ticket and no middleman.
We have already shipped two, a Kahunas exporter and a Trainerize exporter, both built toward an open coaching data standard so your records can move between tools instead of staying trapped. We have not built one for TrainHeroic yet, but we build them in the order coaches ask, so the most useful thing you can do today is tell us you need one.
Want your data out of TrainHeroic? Tell us, and we will build the exporter. Email
yash@assistantcoach.fitwith roughly how many clients you coach and which records you cannot lose. Real demand is what moves a TrainHeroic exporter to the top of our build list, and we will never ask you to send a password or your clients’ data.
Until then, here is the self-serve version.
What You Can Export From TrainHeroic Today
As a coach, the export you control is thin. You can download a client list of names, emails, and start dates, and print or copy your analytics screens, but there is no single button for your whole coaching workspace, and libraries cannot be shared between separate organizations.
The detailed training history is not yours to pull directly. In TrainHeroic, only each client can download their own personal-data export, which covers their training history, messages and media, readiness responses, and nutrition as CSV files.
You can export a roster, but not the training history directly. The full history only comes out through each client’s own export, so preserving it means asking your clients to send you theirs.
| Data | Can you export it yourself as a coach? |
|---|---|
| Client list (names, emails, start dates) | Yes, a one-click CSV |
| Analytics (progress, compliance) | Print or copy the screen only |
| Your authored programs and custom exercises | Save as PDFs or copy manually |
| Training history and logged sets | No. Only your client can export their own |
| Readiness responses | No. Client export only |
| Messages, media, and nutrition | No. Client export only |
A real backup here is a small project you run yourself, not a one-click download, so it is worth doing before you need it.
How to Back Up Your TrainHeroic Data Now
You do not have to cancel anything to protect yourself. Take a solid backup this week and keep coaching where you are, in this order.
- Export your client list. That CSV of names, emails, and start dates is your roster’s contact backup. Save it somewhere you control.
- Capture your analytics. For the views you actually use, print to PDF or copy the rows into a spreadsheet. Manual, but it preserves the numbers you would miss most.
- Ask your active clients to export their own data. This is where the real history lives. A short message works: “TrainHeroic just changed owners, nothing’s wrong, but please download your personal data from your account and keep the file.”
- Save your programs and custom exercises. The programming you wrote is your intellectual property. Export or print your key programs so you could rebuild them if you had to.
- Keep your own records current. Emails, WhatsApp threads, saved photos, and a simple spreadsheet of who is doing what are backups the platform can never take away.
- Do not delete anything yet. A backup is insurance, not a decision to leave. Keep your account intact until you have a clear reason and a clean copy of what matters.
Done once, this takes an afternoon, and it makes any future platform news a non-event.
What Garmin’s Acquisition of TrainHeroic Changed
The reason data export is suddenly on so many coaches’ minds is the news. On July 22, 2026, Garmin bought TrainHeroic and its sister platform TrainingPeaks from their previous parent company, Peaksware. Around 120 staff are joining Garmin, and the financial terms were not disclosed.
An acquisition changes who runs the company, not, by itself, how the app works tomorrow. The announcement did not include a product sunset, a migration deadline, a pricing change, or a plan to fold your account into Garmin Connect.
No shutdown or forced migration was announced. Garmin bought the company. It did not say it is closing TrainHeroic, moving your data into Garmin’s own app, or changing what you pay.
It is still reasonable to have questions. When a hardware company buys the software you run your business on, priorities can drift over time. TrainingPeaks told customers it will “continue to operate as a cross-platform ecosystem,” the right note to strike, though the next year or two will show how it holds up. This is a reason to get organized, not to panic.
If You’re Thinking About Leaving TrainHeroic
Some coaches will read the acquisition as a moment to reassess, which is valid as long as you are choosing, not fleeing. If you evaluate alternatives, judge each on three things:
- Self-serve data export. A button you press yourself that downloads your clients, programs, and history, not “email support and wait.” If you cannot leave with your data, you do not really own it.
- Pricing that does not rise as you grow. Some platforms charge more with every client you add, quietly taking a cut of the exact thing you are building. Flat pricing lets you sign your fortieth client without watching a meter.
- A complete coaching stack. Check-ins, workout logging, and nutrition in one place beats a single strong feature plus a pile of spreadsheets.
Be honest about fit. TrainHeroic is genuinely strong for teams, percentage-based and velocity programming, leaderboards, and deep performance analytics. If that is the core of your work, whatever you move to needs to match it. For one-to-one and general online coaching, you have more room to choose, and our non-technical safety guide covers how to judge any platform on data safety.
If you are switching, Assistant Coach is worth a look (disclosure: it is the platform we build, and it is a newer option currently in public beta). It is a full coaching stack: structured check-ins, a workout logger with inline video review where clients pin exercise clips to specific sets, a meal plan builder, a workout plan builder, goals, client notes and to-dos, and a coaching website that captures leads, with AI on top to draft check-in responses in your voice and surface trends. Two things matter here: every paid plan includes unlimited clients, so your bill does not climb as your roster does, and you can download all of your data yourself in one step, anytime.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I export my client data from TrainHeroic as a coach?
TrainHeroic splits the data. As a coach you can download a client list (names, emails, start dates) and print or copy your analytics screens, but there is no one-click export of your whole workspace. The detailed training history is downloadable only by each client, through their own personal-data export. So the fullest backup is to export your client list and analytics yourself, then ask your active clients to run their own export and send you the file.
Can Assistant Coach help me export my data from TrainHeroic?
Yes, that is what we would like to do. We build free local data exporters that let coaches pull their own history off a platform onto their own laptop, and we have already shipped them for Kahunas and Trainerize. We have not built one for TrainHeroic yet, but we build them in the order coaches ask, so email yash@assistantcoach.fit with which records you cannot lose. We will never ask for a password or your clients’ data.
Can I export my TrainHeroic programs and client training history?
Not in one click. There is no single download of your programs plus your clients’ logged history, and libraries cannot be moved between separate organizations. Save your coach-authored programs and custom exercises as PDFs or notes, and if you need the training history preserved, have each client export their own and send it to you.
Is TrainHeroic shutting down after the Garmin acquisition?
No. Garmin’s July 22, 2026 announcement covered a change of ownership only, when it acquired TrainHeroic and its sister platform TrainingPeaks from Peaksware. No shutdown, migration deadline, price change, or forced account merge has been announced, and the app works the same today as it did before the deal.
What are the best TrainHeroic alternatives for fitness coaches?
It depends on how you coach. TrainHeroic is strong for teams, percentage-based and velocity programming, leaderboards, and performance analytics, so weigh that if it is central to your work. For one-to-one and general online coaching, options worth evaluating include Assistant Coach, TrueCoach, and Everfit. Judge each on three things: full self-serve data export, pricing that does not rise as you add clients, and a complete coaching stack.
Should I switch off TrainHeroic right now?
There is no urgent reason to. Nothing has shut down, and rushing a migration mid-season is more disruptive than the acquisition itself. Take a backup now, learn your options, and move only when you have a clear reason and time to do it properly. Never cancel your old account until everything you need is in the new one.
Next Steps
You do not need to react to Garmin buying TrainHeroic. You do need a copy of your own work. Back up what you can this week, ask your clients to export their own history, and if you want a proper TrainHeroic exporter, email yash@assistantcoach.fit and tell us which records matter. Real demand is how these tools get built. Whatever you choose, coach somewhere you can always leave.
